Cube basics
Learn how to properly orient the cube, how it moves, and the different parts of the cube . This video is an important stepping stone when first embarking on this journey to solving the cube.
START SOLVING
step 1. the white cross
The first step to solving the cube is identifying the four white edge pieces to form a white cross. Keep in mind that the white side will always be opposite of the yellow side.
STEP 2. SOLVING THE EDGES
After mastering the cross, you will move into matching the edge pieces that are part of your cross to match the center pieces. How to solve: pick a white edge piece, move that side down to the bottom, line it up with your center, and bring that side back up to form your cross. Repeat until all sides are matched.
STEP 3. SOLVING THE CORNERS
The goal of this step is to have the entire white side completed by filling in the corners. In this step, you will orient your cube so that the yellow side is on top. How to solve: pick a white corner piece, move it so it is in between the corresponding colors, face it towards you, move it away, bring the side it needs to go in up, bring the corner back to where it was, then bring the side back down so you can no longer see the white.
STEP 4. THE SECOND LAYER
The goal of this step is to have the first and the second layer completed. How to solve: find an edge piece that’s outer color matches a center color, line it up so it matches the center. The algorithm for this step is away, away, back, back, back, away. Keep in mind that when picking your edge piece, it cannot have yellow in it.
STEP 5. THE YELLOW CROSS
You may encounter multiple patterns when mastering this step. If you see a lowercase r, be sure to orient the top so the r is in the bottom right corner. If you see a line down the center of the cube, be sure to orient it so it is horizontal to you. Once orienting either of these two patterns, move on to using the algorithm: F, R, U, R’, U’, F’.
STEP 6. THE YELLOW TOP
There are five patterns that you might encounter when solving this step. Fish, orient so the head is in the bottom left. Cross, headlights should be on the left. Bowtie, the yellow dot on the front left side. Turtle with headlights in front of head, orient with head on the left. Turtle with headlights on side of head, orient with head on the left. Once orienting your pattern properly, you can use the family story to solve.
STEP 7. SOLVING THE THIRD LAYER
When mastering this step, be sure to orient your cube so the headlights are on your left side. Once orienting the cube properly, you can progress with the college story to complete this step. Keep in mind that you may need to do this step twice depending on your mix.
STEP 8. THE FINAL MOVE
Before you use the Frog story, be sure to orient your cube so that the completed side is in the back. You can then progress with the frog story.
